San Diego Gets In Gear April 28 For Cycle EastLake 2002! EASTLAKE, Calif. Cycle EastLake 2002!, a fun-filled day of cycling through some of the regions most picturesque countryside, will take place Sunday, April 28. From avid cyclists to recreational riders, everyone is invited to take part in this annual, non-competitive fundraising event. The start and finish is at Chula Vista Community Park, with four courses 5-, 12-, 25- and 50-mile rides winding through the rolling hills of the EastLake community, around the world-class U.S. Olympic Training Center and the surrounding wildflower-dotted foothills. Back again by popular demand is the Family Fun Roll and Stroll that lets families walk, skate and jog together on a separate five-mile course. Course start times are: 50-mile ride at 7:30 a.m.; 25-mile ride at 8 a.m.; 12-mile ride at 8:30 a.m.; and Family Fun Roll & Stroll at 9 a.m. Day-of-event registration for all courses is from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Entries for Cycle EastLake 2002! are $10 for children 12 and under and $23 for adults. Special rates for the Family Fun Roll & Stroll are $43 for families with up to four, plus $12 for each additional family member. After April 15, entry fees are $12 for children, $25 for adults and $48 for families. All entrants receive a colorful commemorative T-shirt. Following the bike rides, an After Ride Expo running until 1 p.m. will feature a Health and Wellness Fair sponsored by Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center as well as food, live music, and a variety of sponsor booths with demonstrations and giveaways. Ball Hondas booth will include a display with the newest gas/electric Hybrid Honda. More than 3,000 cyclists and spectators are expected to take part in the effort, with a goal of exceeding last years fundraising mark of $27,000, says event organizer Natasha Martinez of The EastLake Company. Proceeds will benefit the EastLake Educational Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the highest quality public education in EastLake community schools. Major sponsors of this fifth annual event include: The EastLake Company, Pacific Waste Services, Cornerstone Communities, North Island Financial Credit Union, CalFed Bank, San Diego County Credit Union and the City of Chula Vista. Registration forms are available at area cycling shops, recreation centers and other retail locations.
