San Diego Gets In Gear For Cycle EastLake 2001!

Image EASTLAKE, Calif. – Cycle EastLake 2001!, a fun-filled day of cycling through some of the region’s most picturesque countryside, will be held Sunday, April 29. From avid cyclist to the recreational rider, everyone is invited to take part in this annual non-competitive fundraising event.

The start and finish is at Chula Vista Community Park, with four courses – 5-, 12-, 25- and 50-mile rides – winding through the rolling hills of the EastLake neighborhood, around the world-class U.S. Olympic Training Center and the surrounding foothills. Back again by popular demand is the Family Fun Roll & Stroll for walking, skating and jogging on a separate five-mile course.

All entrants receive a colorful commemorative T-shirt. Following the bike rides, Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center will host a Health and Wellness Fair with a variety of health screenings. The sponsor Expo will include demonstrations, give-aways, music and food.

More than 3,000 cyclists and spectators are expected to take part, to exceed last year’s fundraising mark of $20,000, says event organizer Natasha Martinez of The EastLake Company.

Entry forms can be picked up at most San Diego County Credit Union offices, local sporting goods stores, bicycle shops, health clubs and community activity centers. Forms also can be obtained by calling the EastLake Home Finding Center, (619) 421-3111, download from www.eastlake.net, or register on-line at www.active.com.

Entries for Cycle EastLake 2001! are $10 for children and $20 for adults. Special rates for the Family Fun Roll & Stroll are $40 for families with up to four, plus $12 for each additional family member. After April 20, entry fees are $12 for children, $25 for adults and $48 for families.

Day-of-event registration for all courses is from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Course start times are: 50-mile ride at 7:30 a.m.; 25-mile ride at 8 a.m.; 12-mile ride at 8:30 a.m.; and Family Run Roll & Stroll at 9 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit the EastLake Educational Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the highest quality public education in EastLake community schools.

After the ride, participants can visit the EastLake HomeFinding Center to learn more about the EastLake neighborhood and tour model homes. Cornerstone Communities’ Sevilla, is previewing in EastLake Trails with four phases and 83 homes; phase one presales are anticipated this fall. Model homes are scheduled to open in August.

Sevilla’s rich exteriors are influenced by California Craftsman and Mediterranean architecture.
